Alice Waters, Chez Panisse

Food activist, chef, author, and founder of Chez Panisse, Alice Walters has done it all, and, as far as She Travels Well is concerned, is the most inspiring leader of the sustainable and local food movements there is. For over 4 decades, she has been pushing for local, sustainable food and agriculture. We love the Edible Schoolyard Project, which she founded in 1995, that works to provide free school lunches and a sustainable food curriculum to schools nationwide. She also serves as Vice President of Slow Food International and helped create the Yale Sustainable Food Project and Rome Sustainable Food Project. Just one of her many awards over the years includes the National Humanities Medal, given by President Obama. Chez Panisse, her iconic Berkeley, California restaurant offers diners organic meals that change every night so it can showcase the best and freshest of the garden and sea. She is an inspiration to all of us and if you want to support this local food icon, a donation to the Edible Schoolyard Project would be a great way to do it!
